No Spend Month Challenge {Week 2}

No Spend Month is flying by! It’s already half way done, and really life isn’t much different than usual. In previous years this has been much harder. You can read about our experiences in 2012 and 2013.

I’m not sure if I fully expressed the squirmy discomfort we felt with meeting our deeply ingrained entitlement in those years. But it was certainly present for us, and I’m glad to say it is much diminished now in our third year.

The more we have allowed God to take control of our finances and our hearts, the much easier this frugal lifestyle has become. If you’re just starting out, stick with it! It will get easier!

Monthly Payments

Our No Spend Month budget doesn’t include monthly payments like cable and insurance. However, I like to take a look at these expenses each year and make sure we’re getting the best value possible. If you want to quickly make a huge impact on your budget, this is the way to do it.
Every time our insurance comes up for renewal, I get a new quote with an independent agent. For one of our policies, we are now paying the same amount for almost ten times the coverage. Sometimes it can be surprising the way it works out. I recently took $15 off our monthly internet bill by adding cable.
Some of you have been going through the same process this month. One reader reported that she is now paying the same for six months as she used to pay per month for car insurance! This week I encourage you to take a few minutes to see how much you can save on your monthly payments.

How much have you saved by getting a new insurance quote?
