Do you remember what your New Year’s resolution was last year? Did you keep it? A lot of people do a 30 before 30 list, but my only goal for the year was to survive and grow a healthy baby. I was in the midst of first trimester fun, and I knew even then that it was going to be a challenging year.
2013 did indeed prove to be a challenging year, but I like to think we did a little better than survive, at least at times. E has gone from just learning to walk and talk to running, jumping, climbing, singing, and chattering. We acquired a dozen chickens, they made us a whole lotta eggs, and we ate them all. Yum! BabyA entered our lives in August and is filling our lives with her smiles, giggles, and love. And I wrote a book, how I’m still not sure, and published it in October. Despite the intense struggle to adjust to parenting two children, I feel like I’m finally coming out of my postpartum hormone haze with a more positive outlook.
There was this moment at the end of 2012 where everything didn’t seem quite so overwhelming. E and I had our daily routine, we got out of our pjs everyday, we never watched TV, and we had fun. I want to get back to that place in 2014, only now of course with two kids instead of one.
DH and I keep looking at each other and asking, This has to get easier right? And I think it will. But the past two years have given me perspective. Some things will get easier. And others will get harder.
I don’t know if it’s the turning 30 or the new year or watching babies grow, but I’ve been aware lately that time is passing SO quickly. I can’t wait around for things to be perfect or even easier. All I have is this moment; I’m not guaranteed any more.
So my word for 2014 and my resolution is…
Enjoy my kids now.
Spend time with family and friends, now.
Get out of debt now.
Write my next book, now?
